Episode Description

In this episode of The Up-Beet Dietitians podcast, Emily and Hannah dive into which Enneagram they are and how that basically sums up the reason for who they are (jk). If you haven’t heard of Enneagrams, they are different categories of a “model of human psychology and personality theory, that is based on the idea that each person has a unique and innate personal structure, or ‘essence,’ that shapes the way they see the world and themselves.” The girls completed the personality test and dive into how this personality essence affects their day-to-day life. We highly recommend completing the test and letting us know which Enneagram you are!

hello everyone welcome to another episode of the upy dieticians podcast

    0:14

hello guys welcome to a brand new episode today is going to be a little bit different we're having sort of like

    0:20

a just for funsies episode today which will end up being a three-part series of just for funsies so hope you guys enjoy

    0:27

that but as you likely saw in the title today we are going to be discussing our

    0:32

anagram so if you don't know what the anagram is we'll briefly explain that we

    0:38

we do want to kind of give a disclaimer first that we are by no means anagram experts again this is a just for funsies

    0:45

episode so do not take anything we say about the nagram too seriously um and

    0:52

kind of along those lines too the next two weeks after this we're going to be going into each of the anagrams and how

    0:58

they might impact your relationship with food so again we are experts in terms of

    1:04

like dietitian stuff and food and all that but definitely not in the anagram so it is all just what's the word like

    1:13

assumptions and spec spectating spec speculations speculation thank you yes

    1:20

yes yes yes so yeah just for fun before we get into a brief description though what the

    1:27

inogram is Emily any thoughts you want to add add to this

    1:33

piece I don't think so I know we're just like really into personality things so this is this is so fun we are I'm like

    1:40

giddy about this I'm so excited I love personality tests I feel like if this one goes well we could definitely

    1:47

self-analyze with other personality tests for the podcast yes I could be super into that I would love to have

    1:54

like an actual expert in an area like this and have them like analyze us that

    1:59

would be very cool okay but let's get into what the inogram is if you're not quite sure so essentially the enog is a

    2:06

personality test it is a model of human psyche that is taught as nine

    2:12

interconnected personality types so you can be an anyag one through nine and

    2:17

I'll kind of list the types real quick so the types are the reformer which is type one type two is the helper type

    2:24

three is the achiever type four is the individualist type five the investigator

    2:31

type six the loyalist type seven the Enthusiast type eight the Challenger and

    2:36

type nine the pacemaker and we can leave a link in the show notes that you can

    2:42

like click on to identify each of the different types and like see what they all mean in more detail because we're

    2:47

not going to explain in this episode like what each type is in detail we will go into like each of our types today of

    2:54

course and like I don't know I don't really know how it's going to go but I guess like if we think it's true and

    3:01

accurate like what it says about us I think that's kind of like the main purpose of

    3:06

today um but I was reading through like The enag Institute appears to be like

    3:13

one of the main enag websites and I was just like reading through the about page and like what the anagram is like to

    3:21

learn more about it from like an actual official standpoint because I like know what I know from like social media and

    3:26

stuff um but I was reading it and they were saying that that we are born with

    3:33

like a dominant type so it's like a nature versus versus nurture thing so like we're born with a dominant type

    3:40

like already established but that can of course be morphed through childhood and

    3:45

I feel like we always talk about like childhood trauma and all that so I'm I would just like there's no way to know

    3:51

this but I wish we could like know what our type was like the minute we're born and then like see how it changes that

    3:56

would be cool there's got to be someone out there who specializes in it was like yes I can identify your baby

    4:04

when you're a baby do you have a personality I guess you do like you can like be

    4:10

a like yeah like different things set you off like why like

    4:17

yeah very interesting well before we get into our anagrams I have one last little like

    4:24

thing I want to cover and it's just some like um disclaimers of like what the

    4:29

inag isn't so it's not meant to be like a end all be all of course so like when

    4:37

I'm when I say I'm this certain type I can of course like show traits that don't match that certain type like we're

    4:44

not putting a box here that would be silly um it is noteworthy however that according to the enrm Institute people

    4:51

don't change from one basic type to another I don't know if your wings can

    4:56

change which we'll get to that in a minute but they say that like you don't change CH like if you are a four you're

    5:01

a four and like that's it which I guess has to do with just like again like who

    5:07

you are as a person like that's like your core but again like these are these are not meant

    5:13

to be like a full spectrum of like who you are as a person and they also note

    5:18

that these descriptions of the personality types are Universal and apply equally to males and females there

    5:26

is no type that is like inherently masculine or feminine thought that was very

    5:31

interesting interesting I mean I guess that could make that's interesting to me yeah yeah

    5:41

because I feel like there are some types that are definitely I would imagine like more

    5:47

women are like or like more men are like but but again like it's like nature

    5:53

versus nurture like are a lot of men the way they are because of just how men are treated differently versus women I don't

    5:59

I don't know that's true I have so many thoughts about this I love this kind of

    6:05

stuff okay cool um I think those are my main notes again like it's the whole

    6:12

purpose of like this disclaimer here is I guess there's more to say I we'll I'll leave a link below with like how the

    6:19

system works they have all these disclaimers if you want to learn more I'm not going to harp on forever about it yeah but I think it's very

    6:25

interesting they say like a lot of disclaimers about all kinds of stuff so we'll link that

    6:31

below okay Emily do you want to go first and let the people know what you are

    6:37

    I'll go first I don't I will give a quick disclaimer I think I know which

    6:43

Wing I am for mine but it's been a little bit and I'm basing it based off of what I know about your anagram based

    6:50

off which Wing I am so I am an anagram 8 which is the Challenger which is just

    6:57

very unbrand for me and I was copying your notes on this and

    7:07

I was like oh I did not know these other people were also eights so I love that

    7:12

part to kind of give you we give like what they State like the general basic information about it is is the basic

    7:18

fear of an nigram 8 is of being harmed or controlled by

    7:23

others makes checks out a lot of sense for me um best desires to protect

    7:31

themselves parentheses to be in control of their own life and Destiny very on

    7:36

brand there because um very hyper independent and do not like doing

    7:42

anything anyone tells me and it states of key motivators for

    7:48

an aid are they want to be self-reliant to prove their strength and resist weakness to be important in the world to

    7:55

dominate the environment and to stay in control of their situation and that just makes

    8:00

a lot of sense about who I am with my like control issues

    8:06

and my were Independence and the other examples of eights which I was like oh

    8:12

my gosh look who I'm up here with but I just hold on I need to delete this person because I don't know who they are

    8:18

Martin Luther King Jr's up there so already got what an honor like we're on the same level

    8:26

apparently Serena Williams is an a Queen L is an eight Jack Black's an eight Pink

    8:34

the artist like the singer an eight Frank Sinatra is an eight and Al Baldwin

    8:40

is an eight and this is GNA be I'm gonna get I'm gonna get some hate this is gonna be sound um and I know that Bob's

    8:47

gonna get really mad at me because his familyes are Jeopardy like Fanatics Alec

    8:53

Baldwin is the host of no look up Alec Baldwin that's not

    9:00

how you think it is I'm taking him off the list right now that's Alex tbec oh okay Alex Baldwin I was gonna

    9:09

say if you like him I very surprised he's been like under some heat lately he's like I don't think a very good

    9:14

person oh okay he's I thought that I thought he was the host I was

    9:22

very excited that I shared I was like I am so surprised that you are like boasting this because people don't like

    9:29

Alec Baldwin that is um Haley Baldwin's I think Uncle they're related uhuh of course

    9:36

they are I know she's a Neo baby in somehow some way okay we're gonna scratch that I

    9:45

confused I thought he was the host of Jeopardy I was like wow she's keeping it

    9:51

very honest here like putting people who are maybe like not so great and people who are great I deleted a lot of people

    9:58

from the list and I tried to leave the ones that I like the most um so we have

    10:03

removed him from the list so now I just stand with M Luther King Jr Serena Williams Queen Latifa Jack black pink

    10:10

and Frank CRA that was a good list yeah big fan of these people I feel

    10:17

like this anyr makes sense for me I will

    10:24

note I think I'm a wing towards seven

    10:30

not nine Seven's the Enthusiast right Enthusiast I think I Wing that way

    10:36

because I know when I like read about nines that is not who I am yeah and when

    10:45

I was like doing the one that One Wing test that you sent me I think a year or two ago whenever it was it was not I'm

    10:53

pretty sure it wasn't nine um yeah I don't think you're a nine a wig nine no

    10:58

I don't I seven seven is like pretty social like here where is nine let me

    11:04

find nine the busy funloving type spontaneous versatile distractable and

    11:09

Scattered I like how it does the pros and the cons yes yes I could see that

    11:16

are there any aspects of the eight that you feel like you don't connect with oh my gosh okay quick side note the levels

    11:23

of development listed for the types I like directly went to healthy

    11:29

levels because you know oh these are my favorite thing in the entire world okay so my friend Amy is a type eight and one

    11:35

day at work we were looking at the unhealthy levels and it is like I'll let you read it but it's it's hilarious I'm

    11:41

like shook so I don't really I will know I don't really know what these levels of

    11:48

development mean I feel like Hannah you might know a little bit better like what is healthy levels versus average levels

    11:54

un Health it's like what's your mental health at where like one is like your good well I'm an

    12:00

unhealthy you're not a level nine I mean at least I hope not or we can't hang out

    12:06

anymore okay well that helps a lot for understanding this but still I'm probably on the upper limit toward

    12:12

unhealthy so I'll put that purose but I want to go over the three unhealthy levels because I'm reading them right

    12:18

now and I'm like oh my gosh so level

    12:24

seven is defying any attempt to control them become completely rootless

    12:31

    dictator dict dictatorial dictatorial

    12:37

okay quote might makes right quote the

    12:42

criminal and Outlaw Renegade and con artist hard heart

    12:47

hard-hearted immoral and potentially violent that's level seven please read

    12:52

level nine level nine is like is if they get in danger they may

    12:59

brutally destroy everything that has not conformed to their will rather than

    13:05

surrender to anyone else vengeful barbaric

    13:11

murderers sociopath puses generally respon correspond to the

    13:18

antisocial personality disorder oh my God yeah we read this at work with Amy

    13:23

and we were laughing so hard at vengeful barbaric murderous so that's the Challenger at

    13:30

their absolute worst yeah at their best level one we'll give it we'll give it

    13:36

like a positive Spin The Other Side they're self-restrained

    13:44

and monogamous magnet no monogamous means that you're

    13:49

only definitely not monogamous why I can't read things out loud because I

    13:55

clearly know that does not say mon mag

    14:00

magnanimous magnan from the dietician who brought you as [Laughter]

    14:07

    forame magnanimous merciful and forbearing

    14:13

mastering self through their self surrender to a higher authority definitely

    14:18

not um courageous willing to put self in serious Jeopardy to achieve their vision

    14:26

and have a lasting influence May achieve true heroism and historical greatness I

    14:32

guess that's like Martin Luther King he was probably at his best I the one thing I'm a little confused about is the like

    14:40

higher authority thing where it says like a type eight might surrender to a higher authority so like a challenger is

    14:45

like like you said hyper independent yeah the only thing I can

    14:51

think of is like if they view higher authority is like a maybe like higher

    14:57

purpose in Life or like some big picture but like I want to just use the word

    15:04

Authority I think that's throw me off maybe like even like it's admirable to like see someone that's even higher than

    15:11

they are they want to achieve that but yeah I think Authority is like they're surrendering to them which doesn't seem

    15:17

very aish yeah yeah I love the levels of

    15:22

development they're hilarious when you get into like well they're not really like for yours should we should we do

    15:29

that let's do yours because now I'm like Curious um I also after we do mine I

    15:36

want to get into the relationship so they they share on the en Institute like

    15:41

the types together and how they merge I think that'll be interesting okay perfect okay so I am a nine I think I'm

    15:49

a nine wi one so a nine is The Peacemaker I have a friend who knows

    15:57

this about me and she always says that Hannah would rather get hit by a bus like jump in front of a bus a moving bus

    16:04

than deal with conflict and that pretty much sums it up yeah so The Nine's basic fear is loss

    16:12

and separation which makes total sense like it could be an anxiety thing but I'm always like worried about everyone

    16:19

in my life dying and like just leaving me so that would suck my basic desire or a Nine's basic desire is to have inner

    16:25

stability and peace of mind which completely checks out out I'm at a stage in my life right now where like nothing

    16:32

is stable like I don't know what's going on classic quarter life crisis like nothing is like what I see myself doing

    16:39

forever and so just like nothing is like where I think it's going to be so I'm feeling like there's no stability and so

    16:46

that's freaking me out so that one makes total sense that would be like a fear um and anyr nine with the one wi is

    16:53

the dreamer which again makes total sense I'm a huge dreamer I'm always thinking about like like what's next

    17:00

like the perfect scenario like that kind of thing um and like I kind of said the the motivators like

    17:07

what makes me who I am is wanting to create Harmony in their environment to

    17:13

avoid conflict in ttention to preserve things as they are and to resist

    17:19

whatever would upset or disturb them so like that completely checks out like I absolutely hate

    17:25

conflict I was a man manager once in college at the dining Court I worked at

    17:31

and that was just I love that job overall but like that position specifically was not good for me like

    17:38

happened to like I had to fire someone once and that just like set me into a turmoil they talked me out of it long

    17:44

story short like that's how that went they literally talked me out of firing them like having to like uh like not

    17:51

punish us the wrong word but deal with like conflict from the employees like it was just terrible I don't do well that

    17:58

kind of stuff examples of other type nines are Walt Disney Morgan Freeman

    18:04

Lisa kudro Zoe desel and Mr Rogers I feel like is probably the most like

    18:09

well-known type nine yeah that's so this is so on point for

    18:16

you but I find it so funny because I feel like ours are like opposites yeah

    18:22

I you can be you can be a nine- wi eight and I just feel like that doesn't work

    18:27

out I was going to say I don't understand how they're like next to each other yeah they seem

    18:34

so so they Define like they have like what that the name of that would be so

    18:41

if you're a nine wi eight you're the referee which I don't exactly know much more than that you're an eight wi nine

    18:47

apparently you're the bear the bear

    18:53

yeahuh but we think I'm on the other side which is eight WI seven wi Maverick I'm definitely not

    19:00

a nine wi no no no um do you want to hear my level n level development it is

    19:08

so it's so accurate like I could totally see this if I was like at my absolute worst Okay but well then we'll have to

    19:14

hear the best because I we have to hear when you're thriving where you're we me

    19:21

and my type eight friends like we read this too about me and we were just like cracking it it's so true I mean it's not

    19:26

true about me but it could totally see how it could be true okay so level nine they finally become

    19:31

severely disoriented and catatonic abandoning themselves turning into shattered

    19:37

shells multiple personalities possible generally corresponds to the schizoid

    19:43

and dependent personality disorders the shattered shell one made me laugh because if I'm unwell I am a shattered

    19:50

shell like I am you touch me and I'm like broken glass not good but let's

    19:56

let's read the one because there's good days too yeah okay so level one at a Nine's vest

    20:03

they become self-possessed feeling autonomous and fulfilled have great

    20:09

equin equinity and contentment because they are present to themselves paradoxically

    20:16

at one with self and thus able to form more profound relationships intensely alive and fully connected to self and

    20:24

others which that makes sense like as a peacemaker like we're supposed to be able

    20:30

to like we're like the listening ear basically like we're the person that everyone can like come to with their issues we're really good at listening

    20:37

and we just like have positive relationships in that way but of course

    20:43

if relationships have conflict a Type n has a hard difficult time like breaking

    20:49

off that relationship or like confronting it and so that can cause

    20:54

feelings of like overwhelm basically because like that person may not see

    21:00

there's a problem but we do and we can't address it because that freaks us

    21:06

out they say that like the nine is the hardest one to not diagnose but like

    21:12

identify because we tend to mimic the personalities of others

    21:20

which we we discussed on here before about me like I have no like individualism I just like do what

    21:26

everyone else does and like make them happy by like acting like them basically which makes sense of the whole

    21:33

personality disorder thing that they say you can be at your worst so that's why nines though are hard to identify

    21:38

because we can show all these different traits of all the different other types but it's actually just being a nine is

    21:45

like if you are if you think you are all the types you're probably a nine is what they always say that makes sense yeah

    21:52

once I like looked into the anagram and I like discovered this was my type I was like oh wow yeah that like everything

    21:58

makes so much sense yeah it's always so fun to see the like things on like

    22:03

Instagram where it's like this is like what an naag eight would be like in this

    22:10

situation or nine or like I love when it's like so obscure and it's like cof

    22:16

like this is I saw the the bonus question it was like this is like a coffee or like a sandwich or like

    22:22

something that's so like obscure but I'm like yes this is me

    22:28

I always love the ones that like will break down a TV show and like what each the characters are so like they have one

    22:33

for the office and Jim is a nine which makes complete sense I like those a lot where they like identify each of the

    22:40

different characters I want to read about our relationship okay oh my gosh imagine

    22:46

like two type Nines in a relationship nothing will ever get accomplished no okay so this one says

    22:56

that the typ type eight is like the take charge we can do it mentality and the

    23:02

type nines tend to live vicariously through them that makes sense we are just broken shells who mimic everyone

    23:08

around us okay so what the nines do bring to the table though is a sense of calm and

    23:15

stability that the eights find soothing because the eights are kind of like maybe a little over their heads

    23:22

sometimes yes both have powerful drives and strong willpower both like comfort and

    23:29

simplicity both want to create a safe Retreat from the world our coffee shop

    23:35

yes oh here we go when these forces and their talents are harnessed together after the same goals this pair can be a

    23:41

dynamic and Powerful but also comfortable and receptive at the same time a I'm gonna cry that's so cute I

    23:47

think that makes sense okay there are some potential issues though as with I was gonna say I

    23:52

feel like this first sentence makes a lot of sense where it say like one of

    23:58

the main areas um when like their defenses go in direct opposite directions is eight tend

    24:04

to push harder well nines tend to like shut down yeah yeah yeah eights become

    24:13

aggressive and belligerent I don't know if I call myself belligerent depends on your level of

    24:18

development yeah and then you nines become un responsive and that's where like you seclude yourself into a a a

    24:25

hole yep yep wow they go on an emotional strike that's literally yes that's so

    24:33

accurate they may begin reacting passive aggressively yep in sabotaging the AIDS

    24:39

activities okay I don't think I do that in this in this partnership anyway no I don't think so this causes eights to

    24:46

    escalate berading and threatening the

    24:52

nine oh my gosh oh my God okay well now I know what not to do yeah I don't think

    24:59

we've ever gone there So eventually eights tend to

    25:05

lose interest in nines feelings that they are too

    25:27

order to maintain their dominance wait I love this nines think

    25:35

that they want someone to be in charge in directing but when eights start directing them they Rebel and become

    25:42

stubborn that's true I don't know if it's a complete like eight thing but I don't like being told what to do either

    25:49

like I'm Gonna Keep the piece and I'm gonna help with whatever you need and you instruct me to do but I'm not going to like it like I want to do my own

    25:56

thing too yeah this this makes a lot of sense nines feel eights are too openly

    26:03

aggressive and harsh with others yeah this checks out yeah it

    26:09

really does but I like to think we're in that a where the pair can be dynamic and

    26:16

powerful and comfortable and receptive that's yeah that's where we settle into yeah I think the trouble spots really

    26:22

are like when things are not great or when one or the other person is at the

    26:31

unhealthy level of development I was going to say they're at a level is it nine I don't know if nine we've ever

    26:37

gotten that far but like I feel like if one of us was like a six or seven thanks to get a little rocky but yeah they

    26:44

usually tend to hang out a little higher than that yeah this is so fun now I'm

    26:49

gonna have to like make Bobby do this I was gonna say you know I feel like he's an

    26:54

eight we like have like very I don't know no well let me go back I wonder he

    27:02

actually he might be a three or a six I was wondering if he a seven but

    27:07

obviously you know better than I do but I could like I don't know seven well

    27:12

enough I don't think I can think of anyone that we both know who's a seven I have a friend who's a seven but you

    27:19

don't know her okay I'll make him do it and then report back to you do you know what Ross is he hasn't done it but I

    27:25

think he's a three if I had to guess which again makes total sense for him

    27:30

sense yeah and the three is the achiever for those who can't remember or don't know it's like the person who is image

    27:36

conscious driven success oriented I will

    27:41

note since Ross and I have some very similar personality traits um sometimes

    27:49

when I've done I don't know if it was like a different test I typically always get eight but there was like a couple

    27:56

times I was a three and I could see Ross being an eight sometimes too so that that I wonder if

    28:02

there's like some type of like other correlation between like not just like the wings there is like so where was

    28:12

that they like group them also so there is like oh where is it the dominant

    28:19

emotion of each of the different centers there is where' that go but

    28:26

eight and three are almost never together because of how like the anagram

    28:31

diagram works right if you go to that there's like if you scroll down there's the centers and you can see like how the

    28:38

eight like connects to different ones like the five and the two oh but never the three the eight and the three never

    28:44

connect in any way interesting the nine and three to which I think makes sense too I thought I was a three before I

    28:50

knew I was a nine Bobby might be a seven I think he's

    28:55

a seven if I had to guess the busy fun loving types yeah distractable and

    29:02

Scattered ieven yeah I'll I'll make him do this today

    29:09

yeah I need to I'll let you know what he is oh my gosh how fun I love this so

    29:15
